It just either doesn't connect or connects and disconnects soon after without finishing network connection establishment (no IP connectivity yet). Tried to set it down to N as well as AC only and mix of evertyhing - no go. Pi is ~1-2m away from router - same as laptop. Most of the time freq set is 5240/20-eeeC/ac/P(20dBm). Especially that one can potentially travel and this shouldn't be needed to be set statically, but is for the sake of resolving the problem. The usual /etc/default/crda is set to proper country on Pi (tried it unset too), but not on laptop and yet all works.
